Grounding mats have become popular over the years with some people in the alternative health field. A grounding mat is a sheet that goes between your top mattress and bottom sheet on your bed. This sheet is conductive and has a cord that plugs into the ground port at the electrical outlet in the wall. This mat can also be referred to as an earthing mat.

Grounding your body to the earth by walking bare foot in your grass has many healthy benefits. One benefit is the discharge of static build-up of electricity within your body. Static electricity build-up causes blood cells to clump together, resulting in poor circulation which restricts oxygen and nutrients. I will talk more about walking on your grass in a moment.

One cause of static build-up is due to the synthetic building finishes within the home and our forced air heating systems. Forced air heating systems dry out the indoor air and create an imbalance of ions. Wearing shoes with insulated soles adds to the problem.

Unfortunately, using a grounding mat on your bed can create health issues if your bedroom is not tested for electrical fields. If you use a grounding mat and you have electrical fields in your bedroom, your body will attract those electrical fields and go to ground. Measuring someone’s body voltage always increases in these situations – even when you attach the mat to a ground stake in the yard.

Another problem when using a grounding mat is finding a clean ground on your homes electrical system. I always find current on the homes electrical system equipment ground and there are many reasons for this. It’s not wise to attach yourself to your homes electrical system ground.

As I mentioned before, walking bare foot in your yard can discharge static electricity build-up. It is important to not walk near power poles, transformers, and electrical meter pedestals. Our utility companies now use the earth (soil) as a return path back to the substation to reduce the stress to the transformers. This puts a sea of voltage in the soil in cities and neighborhoods.
