EMF Assessment
Holistic Dwellings test protocols for an EMF assessment:
1) Provide an antenna search (three-mile radius) of home before arriving.
2) Measure electrical fields, magnetic fields, and radio frequency (RF) radiation around
outside of home.
3) Measure incoming utilities (gas, water, and cable) for possible foreign current.
4) Measure each room for electrical fields.
5) Measure for magnetic fields throughout the home with both electrical power on and off.
Identify point sources of magnetic fields throughout the home.
6) Measure RF radiation throughout the home and identify point sources.
7) Identify wiring errors on branch circuits such as neutral to ground connections and
interconnected branch circuit neutrals.
8) Static magnetic field testing and bed mapping (see article on bed mapping).
9) Test for Microsurge Electrical Pollution (MEP) using Pico 2205A oscilloscope.
10) Test impedance on electrical services ground and stray voltage in the soil for earthing
purposes. Equipment used is the Extech #382252 Earth Resistance Tester.
11) Provide necessary reports and prioritize any recommendations.
Please note: Areas that the occupant spends most of their time – bedrooms, offices, and sitting
areas – are the highest priority. Some types of testing (on this list) may not be necessary in
some situations.
Mold and Indoor Air Quality
All EMF assessments include a visual inspection for possible signs of mold, conditions for mold
to develop, and other issues that may be affecting indoor air quality. The Building Biology
Institute recommends this visual inspection first. Then if needed, cleaning up and dry the areas
where mold or conditions for mold exist. Resolving the moisture problem that created the
situation should be resolve before any testing.
Healthy Construction & Remodeling
There are many aspects of a new home build project. Proper early planning and design is the
most important. When you start out properly, there are less changes throughout the
construction phase which helps to control costs. This makes the homeowner’s end goal more
achievable. Understanding both conventional construction versus healthy building practices is
essential in a healthy home build project.
Below are some ways Holistic Dwellings can help create your healthy dream home:
1) Assessing the building site before or after purchase that will be conducive to a healthy
home build.
2) Assist in the early stages of design that best fits the building site (highly recommended).
3) Work with client and/or client’s architect to achieve clients end goal. Holistic Dwellings
can assist if an architect’s referral is needed.
4) Provide best healthy options for foundations, walls, roofs, and floor plans.
5) Provide healthy building specifications for each subcontractor and general contractor
that includes material selections and best practices. This would be in addition to the
Architects building specifications.
6) Provide best mechanical options for comfort, efficiency, indoor air quality, and
eliminating or reducing EMF. This includes homes communication wiring.
7) Communicate the healthy home build practices and protocols to client’s contractors for
their understanding. Healthy construction is different than conventional construction in
many respects.
8) Help client evaluate contractors’ proposals before awarding the project (this will help to
control cost).
9) Provide site inspections at critical stages of the project.
10) Assist client in options for choosing naturally non-toxic materials, without
petrochemicals.
